The Grapes of Wrath in Context - Interdisciplinary Dialogues: “Language, Dialect, Sound

November 1, 2007
Thursday, November 1st at 7:15 PM in the Theresa Lang Theatre

“Language, Dialect, Sound”

Sue Behrens (Associate Professor Communication Sciences and Disorders) and Jeff Morrison (Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts) will consider how dialects are used within the play to reflect different historical and social patterns. Colin Sanderson (MMC Senior, Art History Major with Music Minor) will discuss Alan Lomax’s work gathering and cataloging American folk music, as well as Woody Guthrie, whose music is used to score the MMC production.

The next MMC Theatre Production Workshop is The Grapes of Wrath and our five-part interdisciplinary dialogue series explores this play. These discussions will involve scholars and MMC students from a variety of fields, all of whom will engage this play as a response to and reflection of history. We hope these conversations enrich your viewing of the MMC production. Students, staff, faculty, alumni, friends, family are very welcome to attend.

Please feel free to contact Jill Stevenson (jstevenson@mmm.edu) with any questions.
