New York City offers unique opportunities for the student interested in musical theatre as both a performer and historian. Many new musicals are developed in New York each year offering students a wide variety of opportunities to participate in the creative process. The New York Public Library and Lincoln Center contains a vast collection of taped Broadway musicals on video documenting beloved live performances. The Museum of Television and Radio and The Museum of the City of New York also have important musical theatre collections. In addition, students can avail themselves of discount tickets to the best of Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals.

The Theatre Arts department at Marymount Manhattan College produces revivals as well as new musicals. We are committed to preserving the past and helping to create the future. Recent productions include: Rags, Sweet Charity, Bright Lights, Big City, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Hello Again, Ragtime, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Heaven Can Wait, Road to Ruin, American Tragedy, Into the Woods, Carousel and The Wild Party.
Broadway professionals participate in our Musical Theatre program by teaching master classes and appearing as guest speakers. Previous professionals include: Stephen Sondheim, Harold Prince, Jeff Calhoun, Sheldon Harnick, Howard Kissel, James Hammerstein, Donna McKechnie, Tommy Tune and Elaine Stritch. The Musical Theatre minor is comprised of 24 credits and is designed to complement the BA in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Theatre Performance and the BFA in Acting. Our students and alumni have appeared in Broadway and National Tour productions of Peter and the Starcatcher, Bring it On: The Musical, Sister Act, Leap of Faith, Next to Normal, Wicked, Hair, West Side Story, Legally Blonde, Phantom of the Opera, and The Lion King to name a few. Additionally, students and alumni have appeared in numerous Off-Broadway and regional productions.
