ACE

Advocates for College Education (ACE) Volunteers encourage underserved New York City youth to pursue a College Education.

ACE Volunteers facilitate workshops that provide high school students with the information necessary for them to apply to, attend, and succeed in college.  Volunteers will work in teams to present workshops to community-based organizations and schools throughout the city.

Workshop topics include:

Preparing for College
Choosing the Right College
Applying to College
Paying for College

Training
ACE Volunteers will undergo a 5-week training at the beginning of the semester. ACE Trainers will train new volunteers in the content of the workshops as well as in facilitation and leadership skills.

ACE Trainers
Students who have successfully completed a semester or more in the ACE program can apply to become ACE Trainers.  ACE Trainers sit on the Leadership Committee and meet with the ACE Student Coordinator to plan and facilitate training sessions for new volunteers.

ACE Volunteer Testimonials:

College access is something that I feel strongly about and advocate because although I had a lot of support and resources when I was applying to college, not everyone has this opportunity."
~ Amanda Watson, ACE Volunteer 2008-2009

"It's really interesting and fun to share your own experiences, inform, and encourage students face-to-face."
~ Kelley Harris, ACE Volunteer/Trainer 2008-2009

"I was extremely excited to get involved because I want to encourage high school students to consider going to college...The meetings were very useful because it allowed me to come up with fun and creative ways to feed an abundant amount of information to the children...I would definitely do this a million times more if I get the opportunity."
~ Yazmir Torres, ACE Volunteer 2007-2008
