SENIOR MARSHALS KICK-OFF SENIOR YEAR GIFT CAMPAIGN
SGA and Student Affairs are proud to boast an impressive group of 9 Senior Marshalls. The Senior Marshalls are responsible for the formidable task of helping coordinate and execute the senior year events, such as the Senior Soiree and Hundred Nights Celebration. Senior Marshall Chair and Senator for Senior Issues Roxanna Ayers states, “As the Senator for Senior Issues, I now have the opportunity to give back to the campus that has provided so much for me… I intend to provide the Senior class with an atmosphere that will truly celebrate their accomplishments and promote unity among all classmates." This year’s Senior Marshalls are: Roxanna Ayers; Samantha Choquette; Stephen Di Dio; Jenna Driggers; Christina Gonzalez; Brian Letchworth; Sean McCarthy; Jessica O’Brien; and Shadira Rhodes.
The Senior Class gift campaign is also underway. ”We've received a lot of really good ideas from the seniors about potential gifts," proclaims Ayers, "One of the more prominent ideas was a mosaic-mural to be placed in the roof-top garden." Last year's senior class gave a bench which will be placed in the new rooftop terrace, which is expected to open later this year. “After speaking with administration and facilities officials, I am proud to announce that we will be moving forward with this gift,” affirms Ayers.
The Senior Marshalls will hold a design contest open to all seniors for the mosaic. There will also be a design contest for the Class of 2008 T-shirt. Psychology Major Sean McCarthy comments, “I would like to see a legacy (not necessarily of my own) of students that desire to make change. Change through constructive and intellectual systems intervention. If you don't like something whether it be school policy, a particular department, a club that should exist; we can achieve change through working with our peers and administration. Faculty and staff are here for us and actually do listen. I would love future MMC students to know this and be empowered by it.
Last year’s senior class raised over 1000 dollars throughout the year, one of the largest of any class in recent history. Campus Activities Board President Jessica O’Brien states, “Students have paid thousands of dollars to receive an education and have an excellent time in school. Seniors should want to make the most of their last year in college by getting involved and having fun. I hope that the level of school pride at Marymount only continues to grow. I feel like the Class of 2008 has really set a strong foundation for this to become a reality.” This year’s senior soiree will be in December, where the design for both the t-shirt and mosaic will be unveiled. Senior Stephen Di Diostates, “By being involved in senior year activities students not only get to celebrate their past experiences; but also get to create new memories. I hope that we leave MMC with a sense of appreciation for all it has done for us”
