Peer Leader: One of the most rewarding jobs at MMC.
The Office of Student Development & Activities and Academic Advisement will begin looking for next year’s team of Peer Leaders in the coming weeks! Peer Leaders assist with Orientation and the First-Year Mentoring (FYM) courses throughout the academic year. Interested students will need to submit a completed application, resume and two letters of recommendation no later than Friday, March 26th. OUTmedia is seeking college youth at MMC and on campuses throughout the world to submit original videos on the theme, “Be Queer, Buy Queer!” Slams, rants, stand up, sketch, music frenzy, spicy splicing are all welcome. We want you to speak boldly, and outrageously on the vision, expressed by OUTmedia’s Founder, Shelly Weiss, “care about where you spend your every dime, invest in the businesses that believe and invest in you. Build your queer vision of your future, with what and where you buy today!” Submit your own video responding to the concept of "Be Queer Buy Queer," with a friend, your LGBTQQIA campus group, or run wild with your entire campus community! Present in video form "What Does Be Queer Buy Queer Mean To You?" One winner will receive $10,000 in OUTmedia entertainment and the opportunity to host the 1st Annual OUTmedia QueerCampus CultureFest! at their college or university, hosted by Kit Yan and being developed for TV airing. Submissions will be accepted through 4/15/10, voting from 4/16-29, and the winner announced at the culmination of Diversity Month on 4/30/10. Please see attached flyer for more information. Thank you for all that participated in Yoga for Haiti last week. Eberly, who is a certified yoga teacher, has agreed to continue our fundraising through Yoga for Haiti for 4 weeks. Come to relax and renew with gentle hatha yoga that is restorative to your body, mind, and spirit.
The class is for beginners and seasoned yogi's. Eberly Marcei is a certified yoga teacher and enjoys working with participants where ever they are in their yoga journey. There is a suggested donation of 5-10 dollars for Haiti and more is always appreciated. 100% will go to UNICEF on the ground in Haiti.

Griffin United, MMC's coed soccer team, will be holding tryouts on Saturday. All students are encouraged to tryout. Returning players MUST attend. Players should expect a variety of activities in which they will be required to demonstrate the abilities to dribble, pass and shoot as well as a general knowledge of the game and a suitable level of fitness. The team will be competing in Metro Soccer NY's 8v8 Coed Division on Randall's Island this season. Players are asked to arrive thirty minutes prior to scheduled start time. The field is turf. Cleats are permitted. Make sure to stay hydrated; bring water or a sports drink! Ride the Zone is a spinning studio that is offering discount rates to MMC students, faculty and staff during early morning (before 8:30 a.m.) and night classes (after 5:00 p.m.). All you need is your valid MMC ID to receive a 50% discount on classes during the designated hours. Pay $15 per class instead of the standard $30 per class. The Campus Activities Board (CAB) offers discount movie passes for all members of the MMC community. Passes are available in the Office of Student Affairs (Main, Room 807) for $7.50 (please have exact change; cash only). No surcharges will be assessed when using these passes. Passes are accepted at all AMC, Loews, Cineplex Odeon, Magic Johnson and Star theatres at all times, including new releases.
The Office of Student Development & Activities has worked out a discount agreement with the Beach Café located on 70th Street and 2nd Avenue. Effective immediately, the Beach Café is offering a 25% discount to all members of the MMC community with valid ID for breakfast and lunch. Please see details below:
1. A 25% discount on any items for students, faculty and administrators ONLY for the Breakfast menu and the Lunch menu. (Guests dining at and with MMC customers that do not have a valid MMC ID will be charged full price.)
2. Customers must present a valid MMC ID to the server to be awarded the discount.
3. For parties of 6 or more a gratuity will be automatically added to the check based on the sub-total before the MMC discount is applied.
4. It will be respectfully appreciated if the diners presented their ID cards to the server / floor manager at the time when they are first seated so that the ID info can be keyed into the system ahead of time. This simple step will save the server valuable time when printing out the table checks at the end of the meal and help avoid bottleneck delays on the computer terminals at crunch time.
5. The MMC discount will not be available for delivery orders.
6. The Breakfast menu is available from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM and the Lunch menu is available from 11:30 AM until 4:00 PM.
The archive has a new exhibit focusing on Marymount Manhattan College’s student newspapers
Archive windows (2nd floor of library, 3rd floor of Nugent)
The archive has a new exhibit designed by Farah Morain (Class of 2012) and focusing on Marymount Manhattan College’s student newspapers. The exhibit includes student newspapers from 1943 to the present, plus photographs and other college memorabilia. It is on display through May 2010 in the windows of the archive.
