What's Happening at MMC

Here are the events for the week of March 15th through March 21st

Honors Day – Wednesday, March 17th

Each spring, the Academic Committee and the Alpha Chi Honor Society sponsor an Honors Day at MMC. This is a day dedicated solely to the celebration of excellence in our institution, building awareness among students of the importance of intellectual achievement within the academic community. It showcases the breadth of student achievement at MMC across our five divisions and eighteen majors. The day provides an opportunity to showcase the talents of individual students and the excellent work achieved inside and outside the classroom through the sharing of scholarly and creative work.

The events of the day center on the Honors Colloquium, where selected students present research papers and scholarly works, creative projects (such as paintings, dramatic or dance performances), and scientific projects or psychological experiments to the College community. Eight students will win monetary prizes for their work, ranging from the Dean’s Award ($500) to the WRIT I award ($100). Other events include the ceremonies to induct deserving students into the College’s honor societies and the presentation of the Teaching Excellence Award.

Please see attached schedule for a list of activities*.  Honors Day represents the best of Marymount. It showcases the results of excellent teaching and scholarship as well as the astonishing breadth of student endeavor. It is an inspiring event, and we hope to see you there!

*Schedule subject to change.  Please see final program on Wednesday for complete listing.

"Be Queer, Buy Queer" Video Contest

OUTmedia is seeking college youth at MMC and on campuses throughout the world to submit original videos on the theme, “Be Queer, Buy Queer!” Slams, rants, stand up, sketch, music frenzy, spicy splicing are all welcome. We want you to speak boldly, and outrageously on the vision, expressed by OUTmedia’s Founder, Shelly Weiss, “care about where you spend your every dime, invest in the businesses that believe and invest in you. Build your queer vision of your future, with what and where you buy today!”

Submit your own video responding to the concept of "Be Queer Buy Queer," with a friend, your LGBTQQIA campus group, or run wild with your entire campus community! Present in video form "What Does Be Queer Buy Queer Mean To You?"

One winner will receive $10,000 in OUTmedia entertainment and the opportunity to host the 1st Annual OUTmedia QueerCampus CultureFest! at their college or university, hosted by Kit Yan and being developed for TV airing.

Submissions will be accepted through 4/15/10, voting from 4/16-29, and the winner announced at the culmination of Diversity Month on 4/30/10. Please see attached flyer for more information.  Questions? Contact MMC Alum Jamie Cohen at 917.742.1395.
