December 2012

Dear MMC's Class of 2013 Family:

As we approach the end of the fall semester, it is time to start thinking about the closing events of your daughter's/son's undergraduate career at Marymount Manhattan College (MMC). To assist you in your planning process, included below is some important information. We are looking forward to sharing this special time with you at the upcoming Commencement celebration on Friday, May 24, 2013. In late April seniors will pick up their caps and gowns and receive their 4 guest tickets to Commencement. Additional tickets may be requested by students through an online form that will be emailed to them in April.

Please note that this will be the only commencement-related mailing we will be sending to the families. If you would like email updates, please send your name, email address and your student's name to graduation@mmm.edu. Or you can check our website at www.mmm.edu/parents for additional updates regarding our MMC graduation.

COMMENCEMENT

Friday, May 24, 2012, from 4:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center

Broadway and 65th Street

Marymount Manhattan College's 64th Commencement exercises will be held at Avery Fisher Hall, located at Lincoln Center. Graduating seniors are required check-in at 3:00 pm. After checking in, graduates will not be able to see their friends and families until after the ceremony.

Guests will be admitted into the Hall at 4:00 pm. The procession will begin promptly at 4:30 pm. Students are allowed 4 guest tickets for this event, but can request additional tickets through an online form that will be emailed to students at their MMC email in April. Students will not need a ticket for themselves. Due to fire codes and policies, children over the age of three who cannot fit on a lap will not be permitted to enter Lincoln Center without a ticket. If any guests or graduating students require special accommodations, please inform the Student Affairs office by May 10th by calling 212-774-0750, or by emailing graduation@mmm.edu.

Students who wish to order graduation invitations may order them through an outside company, CB Grad, at www.Cbgrad.com or by calling 800-433-0296. Order forms and information about pricing will be emailed to students in February.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

We will be communicating all information related to graduation to graduating seniors throughout the spring semester via MMC email. Please urge them to check their email frequently. Information will also be provided at http://www.mmm.edu/current/student/senioryear/important.html. If you have questions or need additional information, feel free to call the Office of Student Affairs at 212-774-0750 or email graduation@mmm.edu.

Receipt of this letter does not indicate your student's eligibility for graduation in May. Graduating seniors submit an Application for Graduation upon completion of 90 credits (http://www.mmm.edu/current/student/senioryear/pdfs/degree_application2011.pdf). After submitting the application to the Center for Student Services, Associate Registrar Ruth Falconer will send to the student's MMC email account, information regarding any outstanding requirements, which must be resolved by April 26, 2013 to ensure that the student will be able to graduate in May 2013. Only students who have a confirmed graduation degree date of Sept. 2012 (who did not walk in May 2012), Feb. 2013, or Jun. 2013 can be assured that they will be on our graduation email list.

Students with a Sept. 2013 graduation date will also be on our email list and may be eligible to walk at graduation this May, if they will have 6 or fewer credits to take during the summer. Such students should go to http://www.mmm.edu/current/student/senioryear/early.html to ensure that they are eligible and must complete an additional form (http://www.mmm.edu/learn/administrative/css/registration/pdfs/MayGraduationWalkApplication.pdf) to inform us of their intent to participate.

Graduating students who have received Federal Stafford student or parent loans must complete a required online exit counseling session before the end of their final term. The Center for Student Services will contact students via MMC email with information about completing this requirement. (Students with a Feb 2013 degree date were already contacted.) For further information, students should contact the Center for Student Services (212-517-0500). Seniors with outstanding balances to the College must see the Bursar in the Center for Student Services and clear any holds byApril 26, 2013 in order to pick up their graduation packets on April 29th or 30th.

DIPLOMAS, HONORS AND AWARDS

Because Commencement occurs less than one week after the completion of final exams, we are unable to process all grades to ensure students have successfully completed their course requirements prior to the ceremony. As a result, the Center for Student Services will mail diplomas once the completion of all course requirements is confirmed, approximately 60 days after completion. If a student needs a letter of degree completion, the graduate may contact the Center for Student Services at (212) 517-0500.

In addition, you may notice in the program in May that awards and honors are based on grades through Fall 2012. Summa, magna and cum laude designations will be verified and adjusted accordingly after spring grades are confirmed and final transcripts are reviewed. Should a student's status change or improve, it will be noted on the diploma and transcript.
