EWL Students Visit Frick Collection

On Wednesday April 22nd, students in Laura Hydak’s Literary Imagination course went to The Frick Collection, a gorgeous, well-known gallery and museum only blocks away from MMC.

As part of Laura Hydak’s course, the students of Spring 2015’s Literary Imagination class visited 1 East 70th Street to view the renowned Frick Collection, an Upper East Side gallery and garden nestled next to Central Park.

From the professor:

“Our guided visit had two major components:  First, we examined one of Rembrandt’s self-portraits as a way to think about themes related to portraiture, including identity, beauty and the role of the artist.  Second, we looked at the Frick’s current exhibition called Coypel’s Don Quixote Tapestries:  Illustrating a Spanish Novel in Eighteenth-Century France.  My class read excerpts from Don Quixote by Cervantes earlier this semester.  The illustrations of Don Quixote touched upon several themes evident in the novel, including the power of the imagination.”

Professor Hydak also stated that twenty out of the two dozen students in the class participated on the trip. This is just one example of how MMC students get the opportunity to use NYC as a campus.
