Marymount Manhattan Hosts Orientation for Parents and Families of Incoming Students - August 25th, 26th and 29th

New York, N.Y.—Marymount Manhattan College new and transfer students are not the only ones gearing up for the 2012-2013 semester. On August 25, 26 and 29, 2012, MMC parents will familiarize themselves with the College and learn about opportunities to stay informed and connected with their students as they earn their degrees at MMC.

Each semester, new and transfer MMC students participate in the College’s annual orientation to familiar themselves with school policies, their academic programs and life in New York City. Parents will have an opportunity to learn about the College, meet President Judson R. Shaver, Ph.D., and other members of the Marymount Manhattan administration, including Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Carol L. Jackson, Ph.D.; Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty David Podell, Ph.D.; and Vice President for Institutional Advancement Marilyn Wilkie. In addition, a student panel will be available to meet with parents and answer questions about their experiences at Marymount Manhattan College.

The College will host the Parents and Family Orientations in the Theresa Lang Theatre and the receptions in the Great Hall on Saturday, August 25 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, August 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and Wednesday, August 29 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“We want the parents to get a sense of the academic and social journey their students will begin here at the College,” Jackson said. “We want our new MMC families to understand that we are welcoming their students into a well-founded and nurturing learning environment. We expect that they will get some advice about the best ways to support their daughters and sons as they start their freshman or transfer year.”

Marymount Manhattan College is an urban, independent, liberal arts college. The mission of the College is to educate a socially and economically diverse student body by fostering intellectual achievement and personal growth and by providing opportunities for career development.
