Nike Features MMC’s Chris Mosier Demonstrating “Unlimited Courage”

This acclaimed athlete from Marymount Manhattan College’s Office of Residence Life ran and biked his way into the history books, becoming the first out transgender athlete to compete with Team USA.

UPDATE: Nike has just released a new commercial starring Mosier, titled “Unlimited Courage.” Check out the video here:

Mosier recently traveled to Spain and raced in the International Triathlon Union world duathlon championship.

“Participating in the world championships marks a big moment not only in my athletic career, but also in the LGBT sports-equality movement,” said Mosier.

“More people in America say they have seen a ghost than know a transgender person. The more positive representations we have of trans people in the media, the more we can start to break down some of the negative stereotypes and misconceptions. I hope being an out trans athlete in an international competition will open door for more athletes in the trans community.”

We are so proud to count Chris as a member of the Marymount Manhattan College family, and congratulate him on his amazing race! He finished 142nd finish among 433 competitors across all ages with an unofficial time of 1:06:29. He finished 26th among the 47 men in the age 35-39 group and second among the U.S. men in his group.

Check out this video about the accomplishment from the Advocate, and more coverage from ESPN and Runner’s World.

Chris was also recently featured in the ESPN Body Issue:

“There have been very few moments when I have been speechless, but when I got my Team USA kit in the mail and opened it up, that was definitely a moment where I had no words. And I think that feeling, of being able to represent the country as an athlete and as a person with a trans identity, is really important for me. It feels like a really big moment for me in my athletic career, and I know it’s a big moment for trans inclusion in athletics.”
