In Memoriam: Sister Margaret Ann Landry

The entire Marymount Manhattan College community is saddened to learn of the death of Margaret Ann Landry, RSHM on October 18, 2016.

In 1956, Sr. Margaret taught students in Zimbabwe. In 1956, Sr. Margaret taught students in Zimbabwe.

During the course of her professional career, Sister Margaret served in both secondary school education as a teacher of Latin, French and history and at the college level as a professor and an administrator.

At MMC, Sister Margaret founded the Faculty Academic Advising and Peer Advising Program and the Freshman Seminar Program. She served as the director of academic advisement at the College until the mid-80s, at which point she moved to a chaplain position at Stony Brook University, where she worked until her retirement 25 years later.

Sister Margaret also served as Vice President of NACADA (National Academic Advising Association) and authored several articles for the NACADA Journal, serving on the editorial board and giving presentations at NACADA Conferences as well.

Members of the MMC community remember Sister Margaret as deeply committed to helping students succeed in their studies and lives.
