Natural Science Department Registers More Than 45 MMC Community Members to Donate Organs

(New York, NY) Students in General Biology I and the Department of Natural Sciences hosted the third annual “Give Us Your Organs!” event at Marymount Manhattan on October 29. More than 45 students, staff and faculty registered for New York State Donate Life Registry thanks to this year’s event. Students shared information about organ donation, tissue banks, and how to sign up to be an organ donor at a table setup in the Nugent Lounge.

Julia Rivera, director of communications at the New York Organ Donor Network, was greatly appreciative of the successful efforts led by students in the General Biology I course, Associate Professor Ann Aguanno, and the responsive Marymount Manhattan College community members who registered for the New York Organ Donor Network.

“On behalf of the 100,000 plus people on the national waiting list for a life saving organ transplant, the New York Organ Donor Network, and I personally, want to extend our most sincere appreciation to you, your wonderful students, and the Marymount Manhattan College community for your efforts to promote the Gift of Life,” said Rivera. “With today’s science and healthcare technology, no one should die needlessly awaiting an organ transplant. We need all the help we can get to mobilize enrollments on the Donate Life Registry and you are doing just that.”
