Senior Vice President, Alumna, Professor and Friend Maureen Grant bids Farewell to MMC

(New York, NY) Senior Vice President of Marymount Manhattan Maureen Grant will be leaving the College after nine years of loyal service. Maureen graduated from Marymount Manhattan in 1960 with a double major in English and Philosophy. She has dedicated her career to higher education in a variety of capacities, as a scholar, professor, division chair, dean and vice president.

In addition to serving as Senior Vice President at MMC, Maureen also served the College as Acting President and Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement. She was awarded the MMC Alumni Tribute Award in October 1997 for her influential involvement with her alma mater. Maureen will remain connected with MMC and will continue volunteering with the Alumni Leadership Council.

Maureen earned a Ph.D. in Nineteenth Century Studies from Drew University and an M.A. in English from St. John’s University. She was twice a scholar-in-residence as well as a history faculty member at Cambridge University. She has researched and taught courses in nineteenth century British literature and history, composition and writing.

Previously, Maureen was the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty at Bloomfield College. She was awarded the president’s medal at Bloomfield College’s 124th Commencement Ceremony. In addition, friends and faculty at Bloomfield College dedicated an endowed scholarship in her name to honor her years of service to Bloomfield. Before that, Maureen held the positions of Academic Dean, Chair of the Humanities Division and Associate Professor of English at Felician College and Assistant Dean at the College of Saint Elizabeth.

Speaking of her tenure at Marymount Manhattan, Maureen said, “I realized upon my return to Marymount Manhattan, that although many years had passed since I was awarded my B.A., the civility and sense of community that characterized my undergraduate days still prevailed. Concluding my career at my alma mater has been a very special gift.
