MMC Develops Emergency Plan with Broadcast Alert and Notification System

(New York, NY) Marymount Manhattan College recently implemented Alertify, a broadcast alert and notification system, as part of its Emergency Response Plan for the Marymount Manhattan community. In the aftermath of the tragedy at Virginia Tech, MMC is among an increasing number of colleges and universities that have deployed mass notification systems. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of the MMC community,” says Paul Ciraulo, vice president for administration and finance at MMC. “Through Alertify, we can communicate faster and more efficiently with our students, staff and faculty.”

In case of an emergency, Alertify enables MMC to communicate immediately with individual members of the College community by sending text message blasts to cell phones and voicemail and e-mail messages. As part of this effort, the College has also developed a Crisis Response Team, which is responsible for initiating the broadcast of these emergency messages. Alertify can also be used to communicate news about emergency College closings, lockdowns and other safety related issues.

During the first two weeks of September, the College made a large effort to enroll students, faculty and staff in the Alertify System. As of September 21, 1,428 members of the MMC community had enrolled. “We are going to continue to encourage everyone to sign up for this important service,” says Ciraulo.
