Winner! Samantha Thomson Wins 2014 Priscilla Costello Award

Samantha Thomson (‘14) wins the 2014 Priscilla Costello Award for Essay Writing for her piece, “Charles Johnson’s Unity through a Reconstructed History in Middle Passage.”

Each year, the department of English and World Literatures presents the Priscilla Costello Award for Essay Writing to an EWL junior or senior. The award was named in honor of Dr. Priscilla Costello, a former professor and administrator here at the College. She was involved in establishing the Critical Thinking program in the early 1970s and also served as Vice President for Academic Affairs from January 1998 to June 1989. She is remembered here at the College as a force for academic excellence in her teaching, mentoring, and commitment to curriculum development.

This year’s winner is Samantha Thomson, ‘14. Sam graduated this past May and plans to attend graduate school for creative writing in Fall 2015.
