President’s Medal Gala Raises $400,000 in Scholarship Support

New York, N.Y.—On April 29, donors, alumni and friends enjoyed an evening of dining, dancing and live entertainment at the 2010 President’s Medal Gala, hosted by Marymount Manhattan College. The event, held at The Pierre in New York City, generated more than $400,000 to support scholarships and grants for MMC students.

(New York, NY) – New York Governor David A. Paterson announced the appointment of Justice Sallie Manzanet-Daniels in the Appellate Division, First Judicial Department, making her the first female Latin-American to be appointed to this division. Justice Manzanet-Daniels was appointed along with Justice Nelson S. Román to fill two new seats.

Stavros S. Niarchos Foundation Awards Grant to Marymount Manhattan

New York, NY – The Stavros S. Niarchos Foundation has awarded Marymount Manhattan College (MMC) a $300,000 grant over a period of two years. The grant will augment the existing Stavros Niarchos Endowed Scholarship for International Students, which was originally funded in 2001. This Endowed Scholarship is important since international students do not have access to the same financial opportunities available to their peers who are U.S. citizens.

MMC Students Participate in National Equality March

(New York, NY) – Marymount Manhattan students joined thousands of individuals at the National Equality March in Washington, D.C. The Oct. 11th event attracted elected officials, entertainers and members of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender) community who were out to campaign in support of equal rights and protection for the LGBT community.

Marymount Manhattan College is proud to present The Jack and Lewis Rudin Distinguished Visiting Scholars Lecture at 6:30 p.m., March 17, in The Theresa Lang Theatre. This year’s featured speaker is Dr. Richard West Sellars, retired National Park Service Historian, noted author and Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow. His lecture is titled, “America’s National Parks and the Rise of an Environmental Ethic.”

MMC Students, Campus Community Witness Presidential Inauguration

(New York, NY) On January 20, 2009, about 60 members of the MMC community gathered in the Nugent Lounge to watch the Presidential Inauguration. As the College watched the broadcast, two Marymount Manhattan College students were in the crowd that witnessed it firsthand. President and vice-president of MMC’s Student Political Association Holly Dougherty ’09 and Farah Minwalla ’11 observed President Barack Obama’s inauguration amid a crowd of nearly two million people in the span between the U.S. Capitol and the Washington Monument.

(New York, NY) Marymount Manhattan’s This is the Day Web site, designed for the $25 million fundraising campaign initiative, was awarded a Silver 2009 CASE II Accolades Award in the division of Web Site: Fundraising Development. MMC’s site was competing alongside colleges and universities in the CASE District II division, the largest of the eight CASE districts. 

Facebook Connects MMC Alumni

(New York, NY) Originally constructed as a networking tool for students attending colleges and universities, Facebook is the popular, free-accessing networking Web site that has grown to include members based on city, workplace, school and region. Marymount Manhattan’s Office of Alumni Relations, like so many other alumni associations, is finding Facebook to be an advantageous tool to engage young alumni and keep them interconnected with the College and each other.
