Every spring, Marymount Manhattan College welcomes alumni back to campus for Reunion Weekend – a celebratory event for old friends to re-connect and new friends to be made. At each Reunion, there are opportunities to reminisce with classmates and to remember the special years in New York City as Marymount Manhattan students.
The Department of Natural Sciences has just introduced a new major: Environmental Studies. Its objective is to foster an integrated understanding of environmental issues encompassing perspectives from the curriculum’s three broad disciplines - humanities, natural science, and social science. This will offer abundant opportunities for students to supplement their academic learning with experiences outside the classroom.
The College has officially launched its presidential search. The profile prepared by the Search Committee and additional information about the search, including the publications in which the position is being advertised, are now available.
On June 13 and 14, 2014, Marymount Manhattan College observed its annual Alumni Reunion Weekend, honoring the classes that graduated in years ending in 4s and 9s.
During Marymount Manhattan’s commencement ceremony on May 23, 2014, something strange and wonderful happened. During Josephine Ancelle’s valedictory address, she broke into song – and then, spontaneously, was joined by her fellow graduates seated before her. The song? “Tomorrow,” from the musical Annie.
On May 6, 2014, at its Annual Meeting, the Marymount Manhattan College Board of Trustees unanimously approved Hope Knight ‘85 as its newest chairperson, and John H. Hunt as its newest member. Ms. Knight is the second Alumnae in the College’s history to hold this position on the Board.

Professor Ann Aguanno has been selected as the new Chair of the Undergraduate Affiliate Network (UAN), the premier national organization dedicated to undergraduate research in biology and research-based undergraduate education.
Martin Charnin, lyricist, writer and director (Annie), along with his wife, Shelly Burch, singer and actress (Nine), recently taught a three hour Master Class for all graduating seniors in Christine Riley’s Musical Theatre class.
Thanks to the growth in student enrollment in the Communication Arts major – Marymount Manhattan’s largest major – the Communication Arts Department will become its own division, coming out of the Humanities Division. It will be called the Division of Communication and Media Arts. Professor Laura Tropp will be the divisional chair.
Three Marymount Manhattan College Biology majors have been inducted into the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Honor Society (Chi Omega Lambda), which recognizes exceptional undergraduate juniors and seniors pursuing a degree in the molecular life sciences at a college or university that is a member of the Undergraduate Affiliate Network (UAN).
Marymount Manhattan College President Judson R. Shaver has announced that he will retire on June 30, 2015, after 14 years at the College and 35 years in higher education.
On June 12, 2014, the Bedford Hills College Program will hold its annual commencement exercises at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, a maximum security prison for women. Created in spring 1997 and officially inaugurated as an extension campus of the College in fall 2004, the program empowers inmates with knowledge and support to rebuild their lives after possible release.
Marymount Manhattan College Professor Debra Tillinger will be teaching adult courses this June and July at the American Museum of Natural History. The courses are titled “Our Earth’s Future.”
