Marymount Manhattan College (MMC) is an urban, independent liberal arts college located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Reporting to the President and serving as a member of the President’s cabinet, the Vice President for Institutional Advancement (VP) is the Chief Advancement Officer of the College. The VP will manage, direct, integrate and coordinate all functions in the Institutional Advancement Division that are essential to meeting the College’s fundraising, marketing and communications, constituent relations, and other goals, including all staff and volunteers.
Qualified candidates will have a minimum of ten (10) years of increasingly responsible positions in advancement, including experience managing a department or team, with a preference for higher education experience. The VP will have strong management skills, both strategic and operational, and a demonstrated ability to build, manage and motivate an effective team. The qualified candidate will have experience with major gifts, capital campaigns, planned giving, annual giving, special events, constituent engagement, strategic goal-setting and departmental management—and will have a record of effectively using “moves management” strategies to achieve established goals. The qualified candidate will have strategic planning and decision-making capabilities based on research, analysis and sound judgment to be applied toward the development of an innovative advancement program with the leadership skills to ensure its successful implementation. The qualified candidate will be able to build collaborative relationships with both the academic community and a diverse alumni and constituent base. The qualified candidate will demonstrate self-confidence, integrity, warmth and a flexible leadership and personal style combined with a sense of humor that will earn the respect and attention of the campus community. The VP must have superior communication skills to express verbally and in writing MMC’s mission and fundraising goals with clarity, passion and persuasion. A Bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred. Must be willing and able to travel and to be available to work evenings and weekends as needed for special events.
