Early Alert program

For Students: Early Alert is a system for identifying students who are having difficulties in a given course. An instructor fills out an Early Alert for a student and submits it to the Office of Academic Advisement for action. Once the notice is received, the office will contact students so that they will be apprised of the situation and can take steps to improve their performance in the class. Students may be identified for Early Alert for a variety of reasons, including absences, lateness, test scores, language skills and writing ability.

The goal of the Early Alert system is not designed to penalize students, but rather to address academic problems or difficulties early on in the semester so that a student can successfully complete the course. If you have received an Early Alert notice, we urge you to speak with your instructor so that you can work out a constructive plan for the remainder of the semester.

For Faculty: As a faculty member here at Marymount Manhattan College, you are on the "front line" with students. While many issues can certainly be addressed directly with your students, occasionally a problem may be beyond your resources, time or expertise.

In situations where you have serious concerns about a student, The Office of Academic Advisement strongly encourages you to submit an EARLY ALERT NOTICE to our office. Upon receipt of Early Alert, our office will immediately notify the student and their advisor(s), and in many cases, ask the student to come and speak with an Academic Advisor. In some cases, faculty may be notified when and how a student has been contacted and what action has been taken.
