Bibliographic Instruction
All Writing 102 classes are provided with two sessions of bibliographic instruction. Scheduling is done through Tammy Wofsey
(212-774-4803) and instructors are asked to schedule at least two weeks before the date of the class.
In addition, faculty in other
departments are encouraged to arrange for library instruction which will
be aimed at the specific needs of their classes. The library uses an
"information literacy" approach to bibliographic instruction that
emphasizes the skills needed to identify information needs, select and
effectively use both print and online resources, and critically evaluate
sources. Students are instructed on selecting and refining a research
topic, thesis development, using the online catalog, search strategies
for both periodical databases and the World Wide Web, evaluating print
and online sources, etc.
