Professor Nava Silton, Ph.D., on Mother’s Day, Weekends, and Zoom Fatigue During the Pandemic

During the last several weeks, Nava Silton, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychology, has appeared as a psychology expert on Fox5 News broadcasts, providing insight on a variety of topics related to the widespread impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On May 1, Dr. Silton joined Chris Welch of Fox5 News remotely to talk about the unique challenges people are finding in the new work-from-home environment wrought by the pandemic and to offer tips for finding a new work-life balance.”It’s hard to separate out work from home because you’re doing everything in one spot,” she says. “People need to decompress and get refreshed and rejuvenated for the new week. Otherwise, the work life just becomes too stressful.”

In other segments, she addressed the challenges and isolation mothers felt on Mother’s Day this year, grappling with social distancing requirements, and warned of the mental fatigue caused by the overabundance of Zoom meetings and the major increase in screen time most adults and children are experiencing. “Try to diversify interactions a little bit–have some phone conversations, have some Zoom meetings, and have hours that are totally without any screen time at all,” she advises.
