MMC Stands Firmly with International Students
Marymount Manhattan College (MMC) stands firmly with our international students. We are deeply disturbed by the sudden and inhumane change in policy by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that international students studying in the United States on F-1 visas must leave the country if they are enrolled in college programs that are fully online. This senseless policy change threatens integral members of the MMC community and must be condemned.
MMC is actively working with our International students to design course schedules that are in compliance with the new federal requirements and to ensure our international students’ continued academic progress at MMC. We declare our determination to assist our students who are in the United States on F-1 visas as they pursue their educational goals.
We unequivocally denounce ICE’s change in policy as antithetical to our shared values as an institution of higher learning that seeks to prepare all of our students to become global citizens. Inherent in the MMC mission is the intent to foster in students an awareness of the world in which we live and a sense of ethical responsibility to collaborate with people of every national origin and geographical identity to address the challenges facing our world and our planet. We believe that a global college community is both right and necessary, and offers hope for a more just, equitable, and peaceful world.
We are proud of the hundreds of international students and alumni who have chosen Marymount Manhattan as their college. We vow to support our international students during this time of fear and anxiety, and to fight on their behalf in the face of a policy that is not only arbitrary and ill-considered but also cruel.
