MMC Celebrates February’s Black History Month 2021

Black History Month, observed each year in the month of February, reflects on more than 400 years of Black history and heritage in national parks and communities across the country. Like years past, the Marymount Manhattan College community has organized a number of events to celebrate and pay tribute to Black history, culture, and experiences.

The events during this month are sponsored by the Office of Student Development and Activities, Student Activities Advisory Board, Campus Activities Board, Science Society, Cinemaniacs, Black and LatinX Student Association, the Student Government Association, Counseling and Wellness Center, and The Throne.

Our opening event is Black on Broadway, on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, starting at 1:00 pm EST hosted on Zoom with the company, Broadway Roulette. Get ready for behind-the-scene stories, unscripted Q&A, and exclusive performances from Broadway’s best! Just don’t get too attached – every 15 minutes, Broadway Roulette “spins the wheel” and a new surprise guest arrives! Broadway Roulette will bring in both on-stage and off-stage talent for this event!

Our featured event is A Masterclass with Jeremy Pope, on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, starting at 1:00 pm EST hosted on Zoom with our student moderator, Jacqueline Leon, Class of 2022. Pope recently earned a “Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie” Emmy Award Nomination for his performance in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series Hollywood, along with the African American Film Critics Association “Breakout Performer” Award. Pope is currently filming the third season of FX’s Emmy & Golden Globe Nominated hit series, Pose. Pope can be seen in Amazon Studios’ recently released feature film, One Night in Miami directed by Academy Award Winner Regina King.

These events are open to the entire campus community and we hope to see many of you there! To RSVP and learn more about these events, please visit the links below:
