MMC Psychology Professor Releases New Card Game for Dating, Couples During Pandemic

MMC’s Nava Silton, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychology, has created a brand new card game, Bashert, for Zoom dates, first dates, married date nights, and more to help couples connect and develop meaningful relationships through deep, fun, and engaging questions.

Silton, a psychologist and matchmaker who has helped run singles events for over 15 years, recognized that her ability to initiate lasting relationships stopped at the first date. “I can’t be on the date with them,” she says of her clients. “I cannot directly help them get past the awkwardness of a first date or help them progress their relationships on the date itself.”

With this in mind, Silton developed Bashert, a card game based on her research and work in psychology. “The deck is my way of being in the room and offering fun, meaningful, and research-based questions to help people connect and build intimate relationships.”

Bashert, a term often used for “soulmate,” is a Yiddish word that translates to “destiny”. Bashert relies on the concept of fate or “kismet,” rather than luck or happenstance.

“It’s a particularly helpful game for zoom dates, first dates, later dates and even for married couples, families and friends,” shares Silton. “Connecting with others in a deep, meaningful way is even more important during this difficult time.”
