MMC Art Graduates Exhibit Worldwide

From Istanbul and Lisbon to Governor’s Island and Brooklyn, MMC alumni are making waves in the world of art. The Department of Art and Art History is proud to promote their recent exhibitions.

Oğulcan Kuş ’16 hosted a one-person show in Istanbul, where he now lives, in 2021.

Oğulcan moved to New York to study at MMC and graduated with a major in Art in 2016. Kuş’s works vary in medium from acrylic, encaustic, sculpture, and film, combining postmodernist aesthetics with a bold awareness of his Turkish identity and American pop-culture.

Oğulcan paints to keep track of his experiences in the most simple and colorful way. He is drawn to patterns, vibrant colors, and mysterious images that rise from the subconscious.

Maggie Fischer Brown ’09 recently exhibited her work in a group show Little Things which showcased art in different media from New Jersey-based artists. All of the art was under 16” in size.

According to Maggie, her process begins with scavenging and gathering objects with interesting textures to create the foundations of paintings. Using items such as windowpane fixtures, cheesecloth, yarn, plaster, articles of clothing, and more as a canvas, Maggie paints compositions reflecting the organic forms of nature and landscape.

Ellie Ga ’98 exhibited her work Gyres at Galeria Zé dos Bois in Lisbon, Portugal in 2021.

A video installation, Gyres featured connected narratives about diverse objects that wash ashore. Narrated by Ga’s own voice, the video displayed transparent photographs on a light table that are swiped towards one another, creating an effect reminiscent of items being washed ashore and subsequently dragged away by waves.
