Science Senior Spotlight: Elizabeth Scott ’22

Elizabeth Scott graduated in December 2021 with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences and a B.A. in Urban and Environmental Sustainability with a Chemistry minor. During her time at MMC, she served as the SGA Senator for Service and Sustainability, Co-Founder and President of SustainMMC, Secretary of the Science Society, Student Member of the Environmental Sustainability Task Force (SPIN), and the Natural Sciences Recruiting Assistant. Elizabeth was a research student in Dr. Matthew Lundquist’s Ecology group, where she completed two projects, “Ecological function of an urban rooftop garden as a green roof in New York City” and “Aquatic insect diversity along a gradient of urbanization in the Bronx River watershed.” The latter served as her Senior Honors Thesis.

After her time at MMC, Elizabeth was accepted to numerous graduate programs. Elizabeth has decided to defer her acceptance to MS programs in Environmental Health at the University of Michigan and the University of Washington to Fall 2023 entry. She will decide which program to attend in the coming year. During her gap year, Elizabeth is moving to San Francisco to work in the pharmaceutical industry.

Elizabeth will always cherish her time at MMC. She thanks all the Natural Sciences professors for their support and gives a special thank you to Dr. Matthew Lundquist for serving as a great mentor and for affirming her passion and commitment to conservation and sustainability.
