NPR Publishes Two Graphic Novel Reviews From Writing Professor Tahneer Oksman
The two reviews, one for Curlfriends by Sharee Miller and one for Diaries of War by Nora Krug, analyze the visual and rhetorical style of both novels.
Dr. Oksman teaches several classes at MMC, including one scheduled for Spring 2024 called Graphic Storytelling: Exploring Contemporary Comics. It counts for gen ed credits in both the old and new curriculum – Cultural Perspectives (CP) in the old gen ed and MMC Seminar (MMCS) in the new one. Almost every book in the syllabus has been banned at some point; for example, Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe was the most banned book of 2021 and 2022, per the American Library Association.
