Spotlight Story

As a person with a passion for art, Elektra Yao ’09 felt understandably drawn to New York City.

“I transferred to Marymount Manhattan after my first year of college in Austin, Texas. I selected the College because of its outstanding national reputation, challenging curriculum, and dedication to shaping future artists,” she says.

Elektra took full advantage of everything college life had to offer. She became a reporter for The Monitor, worked at both the Office of Institutional Advancement and the Media Center, and participated in several clubs, including the Communication Honors Society, the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance, the International Students Association, the Black and Latino Students Association, and the Art Fusion Club.

Today, Elektra is the owner and principal attorney of an eponymous law office in New York City. There she runs a corporate immigration law practice with a special focus on artists and entrepreneurs.

“I help artists secure temporary visas and green cards based on their extraordinary abilities. As a multilingual attorney, I try to make the visa process go as smoothly as possible through efficient, effective communications with my clients,” she says. “My work is challenging, but I pride myself on treating every client like a special person.”
