Barbara Hayward `72

About

Barbara Hayward graduated from Marymount Manhattan College in 1972, with a major in Communication Arts, which at the time was a department of the Division of Performing and Visual Arts. Barbara served on the Marymount Dance Advisory Board for many years, and presently is an Honorary Board member. She chaired the Annual Dance Gala twice, and in 2016, Barbara drafted the initial version of the Dance Advisory Board Guidelines, a document that outlines the purpose, structure, and responsibilities of the Board; it was formally approved and adopted in 2020.

As an alumna, Barbara was invited to serve as Stage Manager for Waiting for Godot, the 1975 inaugural production held in the then newly-opened Theresa Lang Theatre. Later, in 2006, she served on the MMC President’s Planning Committee for the This is the Day Capital Campaign, which raised over $36 million for the College; and, in 2009, she served on the committee for the MMC memorial tribute to celebrate the life of J. William Bordeau (1937-2009), Professor Emeritus of Theatre Arts, who had been central to establishing the Bachelor of Fine Arts programs in Acting and in Dance at Marymount. In recognition of Bill Bordeau’s tireless commitment to Marymount, Barbara and four other alumni donated funds to enable the renovation and naming dedication, in 2014, of the J. William Bordeau Black Box Theatre, Marymount’s alternate performance space, which is used regularly by both the Theatre Arts and the Dance Departments.

Barbara is a nonprofit management and fundraising professional who has served as executive director for several cultural and other charitable organizations. Currently, she lives in northwestern Connecticut where she volunteers for a nonprofit organization that breeds and trains service dogs.
