Jaishri Kapoor

Jaishri Kapoor is an avid patron supporter of the arts, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Newport Jazz Festival, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, where she was recently elected Vice Chair. She is passionate about bringing her cultural roots to these institutions. At the Met, she helped revive Satyagraha, the Philip Glass opera based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi, and at Newport, she organized the staging of A Bridge Together, which featured a combination of jazz and classical Indian art forms. In addition, Ms. Kapoor is an enthusiastic champion of emerging artists, especially those who reach out of their cultural roots to find a new synthesis with traditions bred in America. She has sponsored musicians, dancers, poets, and other creatives from around the world, including India, Pakistan, and Portugal. Each year, Ms. Kapoor also co-chairs a wine-tasting fundraiser for the Harlem Children’s Zone, a non-profit organization in central Harlem that has become “a national model in education, youth and community development and the fight against poverty.” Ms. Kapoor started her professional career in Marketing at what is now JP Morgan Chase and has worked in the private equity group at Merrill Lynch. She holds a B.A. in Economics and Sociology from Wellesley College and a Master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia University.
