Welcome back, Griffins!

We’ve updated our Health and Safety Guidelines for the Fall 2021 semester. Visit MMC Onward to get the details.

    Why Environmental Studies?

You’re concerned about the planet. So are we. Temperatures are rising. Natural disasters are becoming more extreme. And vulnerable communities are disproportionately impacted. In our Environmental Studies minor, you’ll craft sustainable solutions with insights from natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

    Why Environmental Studies at MMC?

Use New York City as your living laboratory as you analyze how government policy impacts nature, and how it impacts people. Our interdisciplinary approach to Environmental Studies means you’ll understand challenges caused by climate change and globalization from many perspectives.

Spend time outdoors conducting fieldwork in the city. Focus on issues unique to the urban environment. Take advantage of internship opportunities in public policy, environmental conservation, and urban resource management. Volunteer for organizations doing the work you believe in.

Graduate with both the knowledge and experience you need for a career in urban planning, public policy, environmental consulting, education, or advocacy.

What You Will Learn as an Environmental Studies Minor

We know climate change is real; how do we demand action? What happens when scientific understanding meets economic, political, and social realities? You’ll learn how to navigate these complex relationships and consider an issue from many perspectives.

    • You’ll build a scientific knowledge base. You’ll learn fundamental biological principles of natural processes.
    • You’ll develop your reading, writing, and presentation skills to become an effective communicator around environmental issues.
