    As a student in MMC’s Forensic Psychology minor, you’ll learn from experts in the fields of psychological assessment, mental health treatment, and law. Take advantage of our prime New York City location by visiting and interning at Forensic Psychiatry Clinics and criminal and supreme courts.

    What You Will Learn

    • In-depth understanding of the many ways social identities (e.g. gender, race, sexual orientation, class) impact our understanding of both offenders and victims.
    • Deeper knowledge of the criminal justice system and the root causes of criminal behavior.  Areas of study will include eyewitness identification, jury research, and mental state at the time of the offense.
    • Critical understanding of psychological development and psychopathology and familiarity of research and personality assessment methods.

    While studying at our Upper East Side Campus, you’ll find that internship opportunities are endless. You may intern at related sites including the Legal Aid Society, the District Attorneys office, and forensic psychiatric clinics.

    Conduct independent research or join ongoing research teams studying various areas of forensic psychology, from eyewitness accuracy, fringe belief groups, the insanity defense, effects of cyberbullying, and more.

    Careers and Outcomes

    MMC’s Forensic Psychology minor prepares you for entry level positions in various court diversion programs (e.g. Community Reentry Assistance Network (CRAN) as well as for graduate school. Many students who complete this minor go on to attend doctoral and masters level graduate programs in clinical psychology, social work, and law school and other areas.
