    Why Study Arts Management at MMC?

    The Arts Management minor provides you with broad foundational knowledge in the business of the arts, then lets you pursue your unique interests through courses like Beyond Broadway, History of Museums and Collections, and Producing for Creative Media. The minor directly complements majors in the arts and business, and it welcomes all students who want a behind-the-scenes look at careers in the arts. You’ll learn from accomplished professionals in the field, and tap into the cultural resources of New York City for projects, guest speakers, and field trips. Gain practical experience and build your resume through internships at dance and theatre companies, music venues, galleries and museums, arts advocacy organizations, artist management agencies, community centers, and alternative spaces.

    What You Will Learn

    • You will acquire a broad knowledge of how the arts are funded, managed, and presented in both nonprofit and for-profit arenas.
    • You’ll learn skills in marketing, publicity, budgeting, fundraising, and grant writing as they apply to the arts.
    • You’ll learn to identify and develop skills in leadership, effective communication, and organization.
    • You’ll gain an understanding of how social, economic, and political factors influence arts programs and institutions.

    • You’ll think creatively and critically about the mission of an arts organization, how it addresses issues of access, participation, and equity, and how it contributes to the wider community.
    • You’ll learn to think about your individual career path in a strategic way to keep pace with change and make a positive contribution to the field.

    • The History and Mission of Arts Institutions was a very insightful course into the world of Theater Management. From this course, I gained a comprehensive understanding of both Theatre Management and fundraising for nonprofit arts organizations.
