    Why study BFA in Stage and Production Management?

    Call the shots and watch your creative eye come to life in the heart of New York City. As a stage or production manager, you’ll blend critical logistics with artistic vision and collaborate with production teams from first rehearsal to closing curtain. Our program emphasizes the interconnectivity between management, leadership, and the technical aspects of theatre arts to bring stories to life on stage.

    The BFA in Stage and Production Management major offers students opportunities to stage manage main stage, studio, and off-site productions; study with New York theater professionals; establish professional contacts with AEA Stage Managers; and obtain internships with some of New York’s best theatres.

    This program combines classroom and practical applications within a robust liberal arts education. We prepare students for successful professional careers while offering the education needed to be global citizens.

    Located in the heart of Manhattan, students in the BFA in Stage and Production Management major truly learn to use New York City as their campus. Whether you are attending productions on or off-Broadway, in venues downtown or in Brooklyn, or traveling to an off-campus internship, students experience all that the city has to offer.

    What You Will Learn

    As a BFA in Stage and Production Management major, you will:

    • Develop management, organizational, technical, and cue calling skills that support a variety of production styles and settings while working on College and professional productions;
    • Build upon communication and collaboration skills needed to become a successful member of creative and production teams, and;
    • Develop the ability to discuss and problem solve physical and technical production needs, including using non-traditional research skills.

    Program Highlights

    Summer at MMC; students in Central Park

    Let New York City become your playground. You’ll have the opportunity to shadow Broadway stage managers during performances and start growing your network; stage manage our off-site productions in locations throughout Manhattan; and intern at some of NYC’s best theatre companies.

    Right from the start you will have a combination of classroom, interactive, and mentorship experiences that will prepare you for stage managing in our Bordeau Box Theatre by the end of your first year. With faculty guidance, you’ll move from the Box to the Main Stage at a pace that’s right for you.

    Along with guiding you through program requirements, your faculty advisor will work with you to tailor your academic schedule and offer opportunities on productions that fit your individual interests.
