Fine and Performing Arts Merit Scholarships

Students admitted to our performing and visual arts programs are considered for a competitive Fine and Performing Arts Merit Scholarships at the time of audition or portfolio review. 

Acting (B.F.A.)

Candidates will participate in an acting class that includes movement, vocal exercises, improvisation and theater games. Candidates must also perform one short contemporary monologue (2-3 minutes). Auditions and Interviews will be conducted by theatre faculty. Plan to spend at least three hours at this audition.  

Art (B.A./B.F.A) 

Art majors in Studio Practices, Photography, or Graphic Design should submit an art portfolio to be considered for an award. The portfolio should include 12-15 images along with a separate image identification sheet with information on size and medium. The portfolio should consist of the student’s best work, demonstrate a variety of media and skills or if preferred, in photography for example, a cohesive body of work. One of the images should be a self-portrait, in any medium. An artist statement or statement of your artistic aspirations is optional. The deadline to submit a portfolio for award consideration is February 15 (summer or fall entry)/November 15 (spring entry). Portfolios received after this date will be considered for admission to the program only. Applicants can submit their portfolios through the MMC Admissions Portal

Art History (B.A.)

Students planning to major in Art History may submit a 5-7 page Art History research paper on either a specific artist or artistic movement for consideration of an Art award. This may submitted to the Office of Admission via email. Please make reference in the subject line and on paper that this submission is for consideration for the Art History Award.   

Dance (B.A./B.F.A.)

Candidates must audition consisting of an abbreviated ballet class and learn a jazz and/or modern combination. After the technical segment of the audition, auditionees who have demonstrated proficiency in at least one area are asked to present a solo dance. The solo is to be 1-2 minutes in length in the dance styles of her/his choice, i.e. ballet, modern, or jazz; it need not be choreographed by the applicant. 

Theatre (B.A.)

Candidates may concentrate in Theatre Performance, Directing, Producing and Management, Writing for the Stage, Theater History and Performance Texts, Theatre and New Media, or Technical Design (set/costume/lighting). BA Acting candidates will audition with the BFA candidates and design candidates will submit a portfolio and have an interview with the Resident Designer/Technical Director. Students interested in Design and Technical Theatre or Producing and Management may be eligible for additional scholarships specific to the program. Renewal of Merit Scholarships

Renewal of all Fine and Performing Arts Merit Scholarships require full-time status, a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in major, and an overall cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher. Students must continue to major in area of scholarship. The award is possible for fall and spring terms only from entering year for a maximum of four years.
