I remember the first day like it was yesterday. Walking into the Conde Nast building on August 22nd was the beginning of a brilliant experience that I will never forget. Successful people surrounded me as I stood on the elevator waiting to reach my destination. I read all of the businesses on each floor as the numbers reached higher to Teen Vogue. Finally the elevator stopped ant the 10th floor. The doors opened and I nervously but excitingly entered….On my right side were the doors to Allure Magazine, to my left the beautiful glass doors of TEEN VOGUE. As an undergraduate, I completed three internships, a teaching assistantship, and studied abroad in London, Belgium, and Italy; upon my final semester, Art History Professor Adrienne Bell helped me plan and execute an honors project that aligned with my interests in writing, research, curating, and digital art history.</p><p class="Default">  </p><p class="Default"> The opportunities that MMC has provided helped me prepare for graduate school in art history, which I will begin this fall at Hunter College, and further for my current positions as a senior production assistant and contributing writer at the <em>Brooklyn Rail</em> and gallery intern at Paul Kasmin.  </p></div><div class="lw_profiles_name"><a href="/live/profiles/1645-alexandra-fowle">Alexandra Fowle</a></div><div class="lw_profiles_104"><p> Class of 2016, Major in <a href="/departments/art/art-history.php">Art History</a></p></div>

I spent 12 years in New York working for major magazines as an art director or production director. Currently, I represent 4 American cosmetic brands in Turkey. The first was at Free Arts NYC, followed by the Antiquities Department at Christie’s, then the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and finally, The Solomon R Guggenheim Museum. The hands-on experiences and the combined support from my Art History professors at Marymount and my internship supervisors gave me a strong base on which to begin my career. My immediate reaction was quickly emailed over to Professor Adrienne Bell, who had helped me to secure the internship. She gleefully shared the same excitement. When I graduated, I was offered a paid internship at Godel & Co., another prestigious American Art gallery in New York. I chose Marymount Manhattan College because they understood the value of a small community that fostered intimate relationships between students and educators. Jordan’s design studio & production firm offers marketing, branding and design services to those in the entertainment and fashion industry. At the same time, I am an Associate Editor at Punctum Books, an independent publishing house that specializes in art and literary titles. I am also a Teaching Assistant for an undergraduate course in the History of Modern and Contemporary Art at Parsons School of Design. Although I majored in Communication Arts, it was Professor Adrienne Bell’s Survey of Western Art I  that triggered my interest in building a career in the arts. As I led my first group discussion at Parsons, I inevitably thought of my first class with Professor Bell and how my interests, since then, suddenly became very clear to me.  With this TA experience, I hope to get my students (sophomores) as interested in the subject as I was when I took my Art History classes at MMC.</p></div><div class="lw_profiles_name"><a href="/live/profiles/1056-natalia-tuero">Natalia Tuero</a></div><div class="lw_profiles_104"><p> Class 2014, Major in Communication Arts, <a href="/departments/art/minors/art-history.php" target="_blank">Minor in Art History</a> and <a href="/departments/art/minors/photography.php" target="_blank">Photography</a></p></div>

I developed more skills in InDesign and Photoshop. I got very excited when the designers asked me to change or place photos in the layouts, because I got to see my work printed in the magazines. France Salvosa, senior designer, who designs the beauty pages would ask me to go through the beauty stills and find products that she wants to use in her layouts. Racheal Moore, senior designer, who designs the fashion pages would ask me to scan fashion ideas and place them in her folder on the server. My overall experience at Cosmo was amazing. Everyone treated me with respect, and would always say thank you after I did anything for them. As an intern for Viviane Silvera, I took away many professional experiences lessons, and I grew as a person. After the semester was over, I not only gained a mentor-student relationship but also a special and important friendship that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Since then I have been spending much of my time in the beautiful section of New York called the Bronx, known for hip-hop and street art. </em></p><p><em>I am currently working at the Bronx River Art Center (<a href="http://www.bronxriverart.org" target="_blank">BRAC</a>) in the Teen Project Studio program.The main goal is to introduce design and artistic drafting to the youth. In addition to this I also split up time helping BRAC to put on their art gallery shows every other month at their studio space nearby. I am really thankful everyday for the teachers and students in the Marymount Manhattan Art Department for preparing me to be so comfortable and focused in this type of work environment. </em></p><p><em>Even now as I continue my own personal art career path, I feel more and more confident with the choices I make and how I want to shape my future into a successful and fulfilling one. </em></p><p>  </p></div><div class="lw_profiles_name"><a href="/live/profiles/947-peter-lombardi">Peter Lombardi</a></div><div class="lw_profiles_104"><p style="text-align: left;"> Class of 2013, <a href="/departments/art/studio-art.php">Studio Art Major</a>, <a href="/departments/art/minors/art-therapy.php">Art Therapy minor</a></p></div>
