After completing the minor in graphic design, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of design and aesthetic practices

As an undergraduate, I completed three internships, a teaching assistantship, and studied abroad in London, Belgium, and Italy; upon my final semester, Art History Professor Adrienne Bell helped me plan and execute an honors project that aligned with my interests in writing, research, curating, and digital art history.</p><p class="Default">  </p><p class="Default"> The opportunities that MMC has provided helped me prepare for graduate school in art history, which I will begin this fall at Hunter College, and further for my current positions as a senior production assistant and contributing writer at the <em>Brooklyn Rail</em> and gallery intern at Paul Kasmin.  </p></div><div class="lw_profiles_name"><a href="/live/profiles/1645-alexandra-fowle-">Alexandra Fowle </a></div><div class="lw_profiles_104"><p> Class of 2016, Major in <a href="/departments/art/art-history.php">Art History</a></p></div>

After I graduated, I went back to MMC, taking courses in both psychology and studio art in order to attain the pre-requisites for graduate school. With the support of the psychology and art professors this last year and a half has been the most enjoyable educational experience of my life.</p><p> MMC fostered my passion for <a href="/departments/art/minors/art-therapy.php" target="_blank">art therapy</a> and provided me with a road map to a successful future. I will be attending the <a href="https://www.pratt.edu/academics/school-of-art/graduate-school-of-art/creative-arts-therapy/creative-arts-therapy-degrees/art-therapy-and-creativity-development-mps/" target="_blank"><em>Master of Professional Studies in Art Therapy and Creativity Development</em></a> at Pratt Institute to begin by studies in fall 2015!</p></div><div class="lw_profiles_name"><a href="/live/profiles/1320-amanda-clears-">Amanda Clears </a></div><div class="lw_profiles_104"><p> Class of 2014, Comm Arts. The first was at Free Arts NYC, followed by the Antiquities Department at Christie’s, then the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and finally, The Solomon R Guggenheim Museum. The hands-on experiences and the combined support from my Art History professors at Marymount and my internship supervisors gave me a strong base on which to begin my career. Since then I have been spending much of my time in the beautiful section of New York called the Bronx, known for hip-hop and street art. </em></p><p><em>I am currently working at the Bronx River Art Center (<a href="http://www.bronxriverart.org" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">BRAC</a>) in the Teen Project Studio program. I developed more skills in InDesign and Photoshop. I got very excited when the designers asked me to change or place photos in the layouts, because I got to see my work printed in the magazines. France Salvosa, senior designer, who designs the beauty pages would ask me to go through the beauty stills and find products that she wants to use in her layouts. Racheal Moore, senior designer, who designs the fashion pages would ask me to scan fashion ideas and place them in her folder on the server. My overall experience at Cosmo was amazing. Everyone treated me with respect, and would always say thank you after I did anything for them. At the same time, I am an Associate Editor at Punctum Books, an independent publishing house that specializes in art and literary titles. I am also a Teaching Assistant for an undergraduate course in the History of Modern and Contemporary Art at Parsons School of Design. Jordan’s design studio & production firm offers marketing, branding and design services to those in the entertainment and fashion industry. My immediate reaction was quickly emailed over to Professor Adrienne Bell, who had helped me to secure the internship. She gleefully shared the same excitement. When I graduated, I was offered a paid internship at Godel & Co., another prestigious American Art gallery in New York. I chose Marymount Manhattan College because they understood the value of a small community that fostered intimate relationships between students and educators. I remember the first day like it was yesterday. Walking into the Conde Nast building on August 22nd was the beginning of a brilliant experience that I will never forget. Successful people surrounded me as I stood on the elevator waiting to reach my destination. I read all of the businesses on each floor as the numbers reached higher to Teen Vogue. Finally the elevator stopped ant the 10th floor. The doors opened and I nervously but excitingly entered….On my right side were the doors to Allure Magazine, to my left the beautiful glass doors of TEEN VOGUE. After the semester was over, I not only gained a mentor-student relationship but also a special and important friendship that I will cherish for the rest of my life. As an intern for Viviane Silvera, I took away many professional experiences lessons, and I grew as a person. I spent 12 years in New York working for major magazines as an art director or production director. Currently, I represent 4 American cosmetic brands in Turkey.
