Class of 2019, Major: Business with a concentration in Leadership and a minor in Psychology
On the whole, my internship experience increased my confidence in communicating my research to those outside my field and improved my intercultural skills. My experience of evaluating the financial and socio-economic impact of the beneficiary families has given me a real understanding of the practical applications of health policy on communities as well as its impact on the economy.
Class of 2019, B.S. in Marketing
“What I learned in class could be directly applied to my internship. What I touched on more was the real component. People cannot be quantified into charts and graphs, we are far too complex for that. This internship showed me that. I plan to have a long career in marketing and brand management.”
“Graduating with a degree in business with a concentration in leadership, Oliviana interned and studied abroad to complement her studies. After graduation, Oliviana accepted a position at the Justice Accelerator at the Hague, Netherlands.”
I credit Marymount Manhattan as a school that brought out the best version of myself. Instrumental to my success were the Business Division faculty and staff, the valuable internship opportunities to which they connected me, and the rigorous preparation they provided.
A highlight of my studies at MMC was my internship at Jazz at Lincoln Center in the Branding, Sales & Marketing department. My experience included: assisting professional jazz musicians, going to concerts, conducting market research for an upcoming album, and organizing inventory for the in-house record label. After my internship I was selected to present my work at Honor’s Day at MMC. I am grateful to the business department faculty who were so excited and supportive of my collaboration in music and business.”
I’ve always wanted to combine my love of music with my interest in business and my studies at MMC support that. MMC’s business classes make me a better, well-rounded artist because they provide me with tools to be more independent and make informed decisions behind the scenes of making music.
“The business minor, along with my costume design major, allows me to have options for designing, creating, and marketing designs in the fashion and theatrical world.”
MMC’s Business Management minor provided me with flexibility with the curriculum. After learning the basics of business, I was able to invest my time with the aspects of business that interested me, which was primarily accounting and financing. This insight and knowledge not only inspires me to start my own business, but gives me the power to do so.
Before interning at The Oprah Magazine, I interned for small companies. This was my first glimpse into the corporate world; I must say I loved it. I was able to make so many great longstanding relationships and learn the ins and outs of the publishing industry.

“The one thing you will never get back is your time. Utilize every minute you have doing what you love and fill the gaps in your schedule productively. Assessing the purpose of each activity you partake in will help you determine what you need to prioritize for your greater goal. While you keep yourself busy, do not forget to take breaks. Balance is key when it comes to efficiency.”

“Being a liberal arts school, they don’t want you to just study for your specific Major, they want you to explore and learn from other things,” explained Sindelt before describing the study abroad office as being helpful and encouraging. As a result, she feels she has been able to take an interdisciplinary approach to her education, enabling her to confidently relate to people of diverse backgrounds. The JK Watson Fellowship application process has been an exciting and enriching experience. Although applying was not easy or free from anxiety, it allowed me to gain many useful skills such as resume building, communicating effectively during an interview, and how to present my value as a business person. I was initially interested in the Fellowship because of the working and hands-on experience it offered, but I came to be more excited about the idea of working with a carefully selected group of business people with a vision of their own.
MMC’s Fashion Marketing concentration seemed like exactly what I was looking for in a major. After getting to MMC, I never doubted that I made the right choice. I am so grateful for MMC, the city, and the friends I made here. I wouldn’t have traded the experience for anything and I feel confident and well-equipped to go out and make things happen for myself.
Class of 2009, Major in Finance
“Most of all, I enjoyed the smaller classrooms where you have a voice and aren’t a number in a huge auditorium. Also, having NYC as my campus was fantastic, as many classes and relationships afforded me opportunities to see part of the city, including parks, museums, and even trading floors on the NYSE, Morgan Stanley, and an assortment of other Wall Street offices.”
Class of 2010, Double Major in Business Management and Dance
“I really liked Marymount’s small class sizes and individual attention received from professors. Both professors and advisors took an interest in your education and wanted to make sure you succeeded while in school and after graduation. Marymount also gave me the opportunity to pursue a double major in business and dance which was a wonderful experience supported by both departments. I also enjoyed having NYC as a campus, where there are so many things to explore and do.”
