On the whole, my internship experience increased my confidence in communicating my research to those outside my field and improved my intercultural skills. My experience of evaluating the financial and socio-economic impact of the beneficiary families has given me a real understanding of the practical applications of health policy on communities as well as its impact on the economy.

“Going into Marymount, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted my career path to look like. I just decided to major in business as it felt like the most reasonable thing to do because of how versatile it is. However, as I continued to take more business courses, the major became more and more appealing to me. However, it was not just the topics that were discussed that led to me to want to pursue this field, it was also the incredible professors at Marymount who helped guide me to be the best professional version of myself. I am forever grateful for the many opportunities and memories this small college on the Upper East Side has given me!”

“I’ve been part of so many organizations because being a student leader means helping other student leaders,” she quips.“ At MMC, I was involved in diverse extracurricular activities on campus, including serving as the President of the Student Government Association (SGA); Treasurer of Unbranded (Fashion Marketing Association); Vice- President of Global Citizen Society; Cultural Peer Mentor and Peer Leader for the NYC Seminar.”

A highlight of my studies at MMC was my internship at Jazz at Lincoln Center in the Branding, Sales & Marketing department. My experience included: assisting professional jazz musicians, going to concerts, conducting market research for an upcoming album, and organizing inventory for the in-house record label. After my internship I was selected to present my work at Honor’s Day at MMC. I am grateful to the business department faculty who were so excited and supportive of my collaboration in music and business.”
I’ve always wanted to combine my love of music with my interest in business and my studies at MMC support that. MMC’s business classes make me a better, well-rounded artist because they provide me with tools to be more independent and make informed decisions behind the scenes of making music.

“From the beginning of my time at Marymount, I knew that I wanted to start my own business; however, it has been the classes that I’ve taken, the knowledge I’ve gained, and thanks to my professors, the learning experience I’ve had that have contributed to the person that I am today and that have given me the foundation I need for my next steps after graduation. Throughout my time here at Marymount and even during the height of the pandemic, my professors were always dedicated to their work and because of them, I am so thankful for the skills and knowledge that I now have. My path over the past four years has crossed with so many unique and talented individuals and connected me with many great friends. MMC may be small and we might not have a football team or those traditional Friday tailgates but instead it’s one of the only schools were one can take a Social Entrepreneurship class with Dance, Political Science, and Film classmates and that combination of mindsets and talents is what gives students that Marymount Edge as we go out into the world with the mindset that there’s nothing impossible and that to be thinking outside the box, is simply to be thinking.”

MMC’s Business Management minor provided me with flexibility with the curriculum. After learning the basics of business, I was able to invest my time with the aspects of business that interested me, which was primarily accounting and financing. This insight and knowledge not only inspires me to start my own business, but gives me the power to do so.

” I would like to give a special thanks to Professor Chapman whose retail management class had real-life examples from her former experience at Ross. Professor Chapman’s class helped prepared me for my internship experience at Macy’s and allowed me to be ahead of the “learning curve” because of the real-world references that were used in class instead of simply using theories that often are outdated and/or not practical in their application.
During my post-performance review, I was offered a full-time position upon graduation. Therefore in the Spring of 2023, I will officially start as an assistant buyer within their executive development program at Macy’s Department located in New York City. “

Assessing the purpose of each activity you partake in will help you determine what you need to prioritize for your greater goal. While you keep yourself busy, do not forget to take breaks. Balance is key when it comes to efficiency.”

“Being a liberal arts school, they don’t want you to just study for your specific Major, they want you to explore and learn from other things,” explained Sindelt before describing the study abroad office as being helpful and encouraging. As a result, she feels she has been able to take an interdisciplinary approach to her education, enabling her to confidently relate to people of diverse backgrounds. In conclusion, Sindelt shared that she felt Marymount Manhattan played a significant role in her decision to go abroad. She now feels more prepared for her future career in the business field.”

Through help from my professors and peers, I’m confident that I’m graduating from college knowing who I am and what I want to do with my life. You don’t really realize it while it’s happening, but I know now that Marymount helped me find myself. I came to this school thinking I wanted to study finance and left knowing my love for fashion and the industry surrounding it. Now I’m graduating into this world that Marymount opened for me. “The JK Watson Fellowship application process has been an exciting and enriching experience. Although applying was not easy or free from anxiety, it allowed me to gain many useful skills such as resume building, communicating effectively during an interview, and how to present my value as a business person. I was initially interested in the Fellowship because of the working and hands-on experience it offered, but I came to be more excited about the idea of working with a carefully selected group of business people with a vision of their own.”

Also, having NYC as my campus was fantastic, as many classes and relationships afforded me opportunities to see part of the city, including parks, museums, and even trading floors on the NYSE, Morgan Stanley, and an assortment of other Wall Street offices.”
