Department of
Natural Sciences

With New York City as a backdrop, our students prepare for careers in medicine, public health, neuroscience, environmental science, evolutionary biology, and everything in between.

The Department of Natural Sciences offers three different major programs in Biology

  • Our B.S. in Biology prepares you to become a research scientist or to enter graduate school in any field of life science. It also provides the foundation for entrance to medical, dental, or veterinary school, as well as physician assistant programs.
  • In response to the new pre-requisites for medical school admission enacted in 2015, we developed a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences. In this major, courses in biology, chemistry, math, and physics are coupled with psychology and sociology classes. The course-load allows you to double-major in other fields, such as psychology, theater, or dance.
  • If you are seeking a career in other health science professions, like physical or occupational therapy, our B.A. in Biology is an excellent choice.

Three interdisciplinary majors are also available:

  • The B.A. in Urban and Environmental Sustainability incorporates courses in natural science, social science, and the humanities to provide a well-rounded perspective on the interaction of humankind with the natural world. This major prepares you for careers or graduate school in environmental policy, sustainable development, and environmental education.
  • The B.S. in Behavioral Neuroscience combines psychology, biology, chemistry, math, and speech pathology.
  • The B.S. in Public Health prepares you for graduate study or immediate entry into this rapidly expanding field.

Students from any major looking to expand their career options can minor in Biology, Chemistry, Neuroscience, or Urban and Environmental Sustainability.
