Where artistry and new media intersect.

This concentration embraces cross-disciplinary opportunities to blend performance with multiple media. Students interested in video, web, social media, writing, music, theatre, and performance will find opportunities to integrate these multiple media to create a range of work. Students will explore emerging media technologies and learn to work across media platforms to create their own content and individual modes of expression.  Classes cover a range of theatre and media topics and include production opportunities in producing webisodes, working with mobile media, video memoirs, digital video activism, documentary and experimental film. This concentration prepares students to be the next generation of media and performance professionals skilled in the integration of media and theatre arts.

Theatre and New Media class

Students are not eligible to audition for the Department of Theatre Arts Mainstage productions, but are eligible for student Directing Projects (upon completion of the Intro to Acting for Majors course), and Communication Arts film and video projects.

Note: For acceptance into the Theatre and New Media, Writing for the Stage, and Theatre History and Performance Texts majors, a secondary application of essay questions to be filled out in their Admissions Portal is required.  The Department also requires a portfolio and/or interview if the student would like to be considered for a competitive scholarship. These concentrations are a strong complement to the College’s EWL, History, and Communication Arts majors, should a student wish to consider a double major.
