GRIFFIN DAYS
ORIENTATION 2017 IS COMING AT MMC.
“Meeting fellow students was great! Lots of questions were answered and I'm very excited to start school.” MMC Student

Griffin Days is a day-long orientation program for students who have decided to attend MMC and their parents.

Students are placed in small groups to explore the College, ask questions of current MMC students, be advised by faculty and staff, take another peek at the residence hall to prepare for their new homes, and register for fall classes.

Parents attend conference-style workshops on Academics, Financing Your MMC Education, Gaining Peace of Mind, CityEdge, an Upper East Side Walking Tour, and Letters to Your Student.

To register for Griffin Days Orientation, login to your Admissions Portal. If you have not yet submitted your tuition deposit to reserve your place in the class, you must complete the Reply to Offer of Admission form and submit your tuition deposit first. Once this is completed, you will see the dates on your portal to choose your day. Need help logging in?

PROGRAM AGENDA

FOR STUDENTS

You will be welcomed by Marymount Manhattan College’s top Administrators and Gary the Griffin himself! Your day will include activities such as:

  • The Griffin Launch: get acquainted with the MMC mission as a keynote speaker shares her perspectives on change and acclimating to a new community.

  • Registration: have the opportunity for a one-on-one meeting with a faculty member or academic advisor who will provide you with your fall semester class schedule.

  • Meet a Griffin: join small groups of fellow students to meet your wonderful Griffin Guide—a current MMC student who will help you begin to learn the ropes.

  • Griffin Grub: enjoy lunch on our outdoor terrace with MMC students and staff, as well as our mascot, Gary the Griffin.

  • Sessions on sex, diversity, and living on/off campus: get answers to all your questions about residence halls or commuter student life, learn important dates and logistical details, and receive information about resources for all MMC students.

  • 55th Street Residence Tour: participate in an optional tour of your potential new home.

FOR PARENTS

While students are busy learning about life at MMC, families can choose to attend a variety of different sessions, including:

  • Financial Aid Appointments: In this session, you’ll have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with the Financial Services staff. We’ll look at your student’s billing statement and financial aid awards, and answer any questions you may have about financing your student’s education at MMC.

  • CityEdge: learn about MMC’s signature program, CityEdge. At MMC, “college” and “career” go hand in hand. Our location on New York’s Upper East Side means your student will never be more than a few steps or subway stops from Wall Street, Broadway, Museum Mile, the United Nations, major TV networks, and everything else the city has to offer.

  • Gaining Peace of Mind: discuss students’ adjustment to leaving home and coming to live at Marymount Manhattan College, and gain insight on life in the residence halls and staying safe in NYC. We will prepare you for your own journey as the parent/family of a first year college student.

  • Letters to Your Student: write a letter to your student for them to open on their first day of school. Feel free to provide encouragement, advice, and well-wishes for your new college student!

  • Walking Tour of the Upper East Side: explore your student’s campus on foot-the heart of the Upper East Side!

  • Parent and Family Reception: mingle with other parents and families sending their students to MMC and meet senior administrators at the College.

  • CSS 101: When are bills due? How do you register for classes? What exactly does the Center for Student Services do? Join us in this fun, competitive session to find out the answers to these and many other important questions. We’ll cover topics like dates & deadlines, financial aid requirements, and basic information on registration and student accounts that ALL families and students need to know.
“Today provided a great overview of everything I had questions about. It was definitely worth the trip and so informative and fun.” MMC Parent
“All the sessions—financial aid, academics, campus safety—were very helpful.” MMC Parent
“Everyone was great. I feel my daughter will be in good hands here.” MMC Parent

For Parents

You are an important part of Griffin Days, if you are able to attend.

Just like your student will get acclimated to MMC and the Upper East Side, you will meet with MMC faculty and staff to discuss the academic program, your student's financial aid package, and any other questions you might have about life at Marymount.
