⏰⏰⏰ And the countdown to the new semester begins! We can’t wait for everyone to head back to 71st Street! See you in 10 days! 💙
As we celebrate #MLKDay, we look to his late widow and a member of the MMC community, Coretta Scott King. Coretta received an honorary degree from Marymount Manhattan College in 1969; that same year, she sponsored the very first #MLKDay observance in Atlanta. She would go on to lead the 15-year fight to have Dr. King’s birthday recognized as a national holiday. Coretta was also a tireless champion of peace, justice, and human rights herself. A longtime advocate for LGBT rights, she noted in 1998 that “homophobic attitudes and policies were unjust and unworthy of a free society and must be opposed by all Americans who believe in democracy.” She died in 2006, but we still draw from her wisdom, including her reminder that “freedom is never really won; you earn it and win it in every generation.” 💙

💙 We're #MMCProud of Jackson Webb ’22, one of 900 @PeaceCorps volunteers setting out across the globe this month as the agency resumes its overseas services. The Peace Corps suspended its international operations at the start of the pandemic. Webb will work as an education volunteer, teaching English in the Southeast Asian country Timor Leste. He'll also participate in projects to support the area's ongoing recovery from COVID-19. "The Peace Corps' mission is to help build communities outside the United States and build a cross-cultural connection between the U.S. and other countries," Webb said. "It's important work, and I feel very lucky and blessed to be a part of it." 🌏Go to mmm.edu for more or click the link in our bio. 🌏Go to peacecorps.gov to learn about service opportunities. #PeaceCorps#changemaker#service#humanitarian#NYCColleges#MMC

What do Professor Tatiana Serafin’s class trip to the @climatemuseum, hanging out on Roosevelt Island, our panel discussion on workers’ rights with activist and alum Justine Medina ’12, and 2022 commencement all have in common? They were some of the MMC community’s favorite moments of the year. Check the link in our bio for more. #goodbye2022#countdownto2023#MMCPROUD
