Each semester, the English and World Literatures Department at MMC hosts a reading with authors from the New York City area to share their work and experiences with current students. A wine and cheese reception will follow the reading. Copies of Mr. Habash’s book will be available for purchase, courtesy of Shakespeare & Company.
About the Book:
“Stephen Florida is a talented wrestler at an average college, but he is exceptional in his devotion to his sport. Willing to sacrifice beyond reasonable measure, Stephen makes his commitment to wrestling a credo. The novel reads like a manifesto, leading readers into the mind of a character filled with pain…humor… and extraordinary focus.” -The Masters Review
“Habash has created a fascinating protagonist in Stephen, a hard-driven athlete with a convincingly thoughtful mind…” —The New York Times Sunday Book Review
“Habash has a great eye for the ways in which our public identities and private insecurities are shaped by happenstance. Stephen Florida is full of vim and invention, good jokes and built-up bodies, unexpected sentences.” —Paris Review Daily
A striking, original, and coarsely poetic portrayal of a young man’s athletic and emotional quest.” —Publishers Weekly, boxed and starred review
