Biology Students Present at National Conference

Six MMC Biology students presented at the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) undergraduate poster competition held during the 2018 ASBMB Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA on April 21-25, 2018.

The conference, which hosted over 10,000 professional scientists, biomedical practitioners and teaching faculty, welcomed MMC students to present research in both the undergraduate poster event and during the main conference to these scientific and medical professionals. The following students presented:

Julia Furnari ’20 presented Using a Laboratory Teaching Module to Train Undergraduate Students in Cell Culture Based Research, sponsored by Professor Ann Aguanno, Ph.D.

Eleanor Leong ’19 presented Molecular Dynamics Studies of DNA Polymerase Kappa, a Human Protein Involved in Translesion Synthesis, sponsored by Professor Benedetta Sampoli Benitez, Ph.D.

Kevin Mora ’19 presented The Connection Between Alzheimer’s Disease and Type 2 Diabetes sponsored by Professor Ann Aguanno, Ph.D.

Coleman Spence ’18 presented Measurement of Enterococci and Other Water Quality Parameters as an Active Learning Module in Introductory Life Science Courses, sponsored by Professor Alessandra Leri, Ph.D.

Tracy Tauro ’18 presented Exploration of conformational selection during translesion synthesis: in silico studies of DinB, sponsored by Professor Benedetta Sampoli Benitez, Ph.D.

Brandon Tran ’20 presented Pilot Implementation of a Cell Culture-Based Educational Module in a Gateway Cellular and Molecular Biology Course at a Liberal Arts PUI, sponsored by Professor Ann Aguanno, Ph.D.

Senior Tracy Tauro was awarded one of 16 Honorable Mentions for her poster. Congratulations to Tracy and to all of our talented students!
