MMC Alum Elected as State Representative in Connecticut

International Studies major Raghib Allie-Brennan ’13 upset the Republican incumbent of District 2 in Connecticut during the 2018 midterm elections on November 6.

According to NewsTimes.com, Allie-Brennan won with 53 percent of the vote against Republican incumbent Will Duff. The district consists of parts of the towns of Bethel and Redding, and part of the city of Danbury.

“I am honored by your support and I will always fight for you and the trust you have placed in me,” he said in an address to supporters after the results came in. “Tonight, this victory is for all of us.”

In August, the MMC community was delighted to welcome Allie-Brennan back to campus to participate in the annual New Student Convocation ceremony, the celebratory launch of the new academic year for incoming students. A former International Studies student at MMC, Allie-Brennan addressed first-year students and reflected on his experiences on campus: “Celebrating diversity in education and in each other is to me the essence of what Marymount is and stands for.”
