Biology Students Present at Eastern Colleges Science Conference

Julia Furnari ’20, Marjan Khan ’20, and Ashley Pavia ’21 presented research at the ECSC 2019 conference at Manhattan College.

On Saturday, April 6, Biology majors Julia Furnari, Marjan Khan, and Ashley Pavia presented scientific research at the 73rd annual Eastern Colleges Science Conference. This year’s conference was held at Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY. The mission of the annual ECSC is to “stimulate interest in undergraduate research in the sciences and related fields and to provide a lively forum for the presentation of research papers.”

Junior Julia Furnari, who conducts research with Dr. Ann Aguanno, presented a research poster entitled “Investigating the Role of CDK5 in Alzheimer’s Disease and Type 2 Diabetes.”

Junior Marjan Khan, who conducts research with Dr. Alessandra Leri, presented a platform talk entitled “Quantification of Pathogenic Fecal Bacteria on New York City Sidewalks.”

Sophomore Ashley Pavia, who also conducts research with Dr. Leri, presented a platform talk entitled “An Infrared Spectroscopic Analysis of Shrink-Wrapped Plastics to Facilitate Sorting in Recycling Plants.”
