In acknowledgement of the hard work, dedication, and expertise of our talented faculty, Marymount Manhattan College bestows Excellence in Teaching awards to our part-time and full-time faculty members. This year’s recipient is Dr. Susan Behrens, Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders at MMC.

On Monday, December 9, in a packed room for the semester’s final Faculty Council meeting, David Mold, MFA, Professor of Theatre Arts, and Bethany Elkin, Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts, presented Susan Behrens, Ph.D., Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders, with the 2019 Excellence in Teaching Award.

Dr. Behrens is the author of seven books, 29 academic chapters, and 18 editorially-reviewed articles. She has presented research at 28 conferences, and, in addition to her role as Chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, she is the Director of the Center for Teaching Innovation and Excellence.

“Without doubt, it is her own excellence in teaching that enables Sue to lead the programming and the support of teaching that C-TIE offers faculty at MMC,” says Mold during his Monday remarks.  “As a committee, we all thoroughly agree with those that nominated Sue, that she more than meets the definition of excellent teaching that is outlined in the College’s faculty by-laws. Professor Behrens’ excellent teaching stimulates intellectual curiosity and encourages independent and informed thinking.”

Congratulations, Sue!
