Two graduates of MMC’s Theatre Arts program, Adrienne Warren ’09 and James Cusati-Moyer ’12, have been honored with nominations for the upcoming 74th Tony Awards.
Warren’s critically-acclaimed performance as Tina Turner in West End Production’s play Tina earned her a nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. This is Warren’s second Tony nomination, the first for her 2016 performance as Gertrude Saunders and Florence Mills in Shuffle Along.
Cusati-Moyer, who played the role of an actor in an interracial relationship in Slave Play, has been nominated for Best Featured Actor in a Play.
Since he graduated from MMC in 2011, actor Jason Gotay has led an impressive career, starring in projects such as Bring It On: The Musical, Max’s Gossip Girl reboot, and his autobiographical Off-Broadway show, Where You’ll Find Me. But this semester, the Brooklyn native is embracing a different kind of role: Gotay is teaching a new theatre class at the College, titled New Musicals in Process, that walks students through the development and performance of original material. We caught up with him to talk about the course and his upcoming projects.
