CSD and CMA Faculty Team Up for Publication

Professor of Communication Arts Laura Tropp, Ph.D., and Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders Sue Behrens, Ph.D., recently published an article in the latest volume of ETC: A Review of General Semantics.

During the Spring 2020 switch to remote teaching and learning, Dr. Tropp and Dr. Behrens realized that both were tracking the same linguistic innovations, social reactions, and the manipulation of them: flatten the curve, social distancing, and COVID-19 itself. After exchanging notes and meeting through Zoom, the pair worked together to write “Pandemic Language: A battle for control over more than the virus.”

“I like to say we are the ‘Communication Cousins’—Communications and Media Arts and Communication Sciences and Disorders—in that we looked at the same phenomenon from two different perspectives,” says Dr. Behrens. “Laura was a dream to work with!”

Congratulations to both Dr. Tropp and Dr. Behrens!
