Biology Alumna Julia Furnari ’20 Publishes Neuroscience Research

Julia Furnari ’20, who graduated from MMC with a B.S. in Biology, has published an article, “Thoracic low grade glial neoplasm with concurrent H3 K27M and PTPN11 mutations,” in Acta Neuropathologica Communications.

As an undergraduate Biology major, Julia acquired crucial lab skills while conducting research under the guidance of Professor of Biology Ann Aguanno. Since graduating from MMC in 2020, Julia has worked as a researcher in the Department of Neurological Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Her new paper is a case report about a patient with a low-grade subependymal-like tumor with H3 K27M and PTPN11 mutations, which together are quite rare for a low grade neoplasm. Julia played a crucial role collecting tissue for the project. Read her paper open access on the Acta Neuropathologica Communications website. Congratulations, Julia!
